How to avoid getting sick this Winter

I feel just like John Snow when I say, winter is here. While we don’t have to deal with quite the same level of drama as the Game of Thrones families, we still have to deal with the increased chance of coughs and colds during winter. Once a cold takes hold of you, there isn’t a lot you can do about it. Prevention is the best method! So we have come up with our top three ways of how to avoid getting sick this winter.
 
How To Avoid Getting Sick: The Top Three Ways...
Sleeping
Getting enough sleep at night is one of the major factors for staying healthy. If you get you optimal 8 hours each night then you are giving your body the time to recover from the day before, and function at its best. When your body is functioning at its best then everything is working as it should, including your immune system.
The immune system is what protects your body from all those nasty germs that are flying about in winter time. With a compromised immune system, you are more likely to pick up a cold.
 
Relaxing
Research has shown that you are twice as likely to catch a cold when you are stressed, than when you are relaxed. This is because when you are stressed, your body releases the hormone cortisol which temporarily suppresses your immune system. That means that your body does not react as it usually would in response to viruses and bacteria. So, it has trouble fighting off the germs that cause the common cold. Uh-oh, sniffles, sore throat and cough alert!
Taking the time to relax and de-stress will greatly reduce your chances of catching a cold. So you have our permission to have some time for you, to unwind and do the things that relax you.
 
Massage
Though it might seem unlikely, massage is one of the best ways to prevent a cold. It encourages relaxation and reduces the cortisol levels in your body, which in turn reduces your stress levels. It also allows you to get better sleep, meaning you can easily clock up your 8 hours a night. So straight away it complements two other tactics for combating germs.
But it also goes one step further. The rejuvenating touch of massage improves your body’s circulation and lymph systems. By increasing the movement of blood, your entire body is nourished and more efficient at tackling waste and and dealing with foreign cells. Increased blood movement also means increased flow of oxygen and a regulation of your blood pressure - two things that improve your immune system.

So there you have it, a simple massage is how to avoid getting sick. It can save you the discomfort and annoyance of a cold.
