Some FAQ's for your upcoming massage day:
What kind of massage will I receive?
You will be receiving a seated, restorative, and relaxing massage over your clothes. The techniques we use are all under the heading of Swedish Massage, some of them adapted to be performed over the clothes. Swedish massage is sometimes called a classic massage and works to improve circulation, relieve muscle tension, and reduce emotional stress. |
Who will be doing the chair massages?
All therapists on our teams are trained professionals, with first aid certificates and NZQA training.
Each has also been trained especially in our Bodyworkz chair massage techniques as well.

We call them our Massage Superheroes.
Our Massage Superheroes, however, don’t have x-ray vision, don’t wear capes, nor do they leap tall buildings in a single bound, but they do understand how to integrate chair massage into your daily workload as a solution for stress management and increased productivity! |
Bonus reading: We utilize a lot of compression techniques and work to release the superficial layers of the fascia (myofascial tissue - a type of thin, strong, fibrous connective tissue that extends throughout your body to provide support and protection to your muscles and bones) so the muscles can move freely, and blood can flow more easily to the muscle fibers
How long will the massage session take?
The answer is: Not too long!
We keep our sessions short on purpose, so you don’t spend too much time away from your
desk. This means you can have either a 15, 20 or 30-min massage session per person. The
most common session is the 15-min session, with the 20-min session not far behind. In
that short time a massage therapist can make a big difference to your muscles and general
wellbeing. In a clinic you might have a full hour or even a 90-min session but that won’t
happen here.
Bonus reading: The body’s fight or flight response (aka stress) is controlled by the
sympathetic nervous system. This is the body’s way to respond to the worry, the anxiety,
the deadlines, the constantly on the go, whatever the perceived ‘threat’ might be. With a 15
-20-min massage session, we start to activate the parasympathetic nervous system which
works to relax and slow down the body’s stress response. When the parasympathetic
nervous system is activated, it produces a calm and relaxed feeling in the mind and body.
Because our sessions are short, you will feel relaxed but not too tired and are able to go
back to work straight after.
