The difference between Chair Massage and other types of Massage

For many people, massages are all about candle-lit rooms, relaxing, meditative music, and the chance to completely zone out.
While this is certainly the most commonplace kind of massage in many western cultures - and a fantastic way to relax - many other massage forms are available. Each of these approaches has slightly different approaches and benefits.
Chair massage is becoming increasingly popular, particularly for workplaces. There are key differences that make it a convenient, no-fuss therapy that can be done almost anywhere, at any time.
Let’s explore what they are...

Targets the Back, Arms, Neck and Shoulders
Table massages are ideal for targeting any area of the body, as the therapist has easy access to any muscle group from head to toe.
Chair massages, on the other hand, are focused on releasing tension in the upper body. This is ideal for workplace massage, as these tend to be the most stress-prone areas. Chair massage focuses largely on the back, arms, neck and shoulders.

Short and Energizing
Because chair massages are aimed at people with places to be and things to do, and who can’t be away from their desks for a longer period, the short sessions are designed with this in mind.
Also, there is science behind the 15-min sessions, and that is that it takes at least 15-min for the deep relaxation part of the nervous system to kick in (the Autonomic nervous system) so we simply won’t take you there.
Of course, there’s plenty of relaxation involved, but the end of the massage is aimed at waking up the body and mind, plus providing a burst of energy to get through the rest of the day.

Location and Set Up
The great thing about chair massages is that they can happen almost anywhere! Unlike a traditional, full-body table massage, you don't need a large, quiet area. A small corner of the office will do.
Many other massage forms require you to undress and lie down under a towel or blanket. Obviously, more privacy is required. But that is not the case with chair massage. They happen fully clothed. And because the aim is not deep relaxation and sleepiness, they can be set up in general areas if necessary.
While other forms of massage may require somewhere to undress, towels, blankets, music, oils, and a quiet spot, chair massage only needs the massage chair. This is something your therapist will supply and can be folded up and taken away in a matter of minutes.

Duration
Full body massages are usually around one to two hours in length. While there’s no reason a chair massage can’t be this long, they do tend to run shorter because of the goal of relief and refreshment rather than deep relaxation. Plus, your colleagues are all lining up for their turn too!
Generally, a chair massage will be around 15-30 minutes.

Techniques
During a massage on a table or bed, the therapist can choose from a variety of methods, including stroking and kneading. But they may struggle to put increased pressure on due to the position of the body (unless they climb up on the table with you Thai-style!)
Chair massage usually involves compression techniques that works best over clothes. The therapist has a bit more leverage to put more pressure on if necessary (but they will check in with you first).
With the Bodyworkz Technique, our routine has been created especially with a desk-bound person in mind but is adaptable to any kind of work situation.
Our routine is made up of a selection of massage techniques that are designed to have maximum benefit while working through a layer of clothes. It utilities selective compression techniques from Swedish massage, ensuring every move we make has a physical impact on the muscles. It is always the same experience – always fast, always efficient, always effective. Consistency creates comfort.

So, what is the verdict?
Chair massages are well-suited to work environments, where employees can take a brief break to restore their minds and bodies. It means they return to work energized with fewer aches and pains. While this style of massage is short, it is highly effective.
Regular massages over time can prevent and treat many common workplace ailments, making for a happier, healthier team!
